I'm sorry, as usual, that I'm the wobbly leg of our table and whatever precious objects and delicious foods are balanced on top are in danger of sliding off. So, this is what I have to offer in the way of balance...

This is a sculpture I'm working on for my IP, which is outside of class time. Actually, it was due today, but I'm nowhere near finished. I plan to make the hair cascade about everywhere, and I need to fire and glaze. I think it's going to explode in the kiln, anyway, because I know almost nothing about clay. It's been fantastic, though, sculpting--so cathartic and satisfying in a way that painting isn't for me. But at the moment, the smugly androgynous blandly patronizing face of my becurled creation is getting on my nerves a bit. And the hair, which has progressed significantly since I took this photo, is a gravitational disaster.
These are a couple of quick sketches I did in my workbook
with white and black and brown charcoal pencils.

I guess I've done more with art in general. I could definitely be less happy with my progress this year, and I've done more than three things. The art program at UWC is fantastic...but lately I've been missing Leo's class, and figure drawing. And you guys, obviously, because you were a huge part of that. (Even you, Shem, despite your college status.)

rosalie!!! haha, though tragic, your adventures in clay make me laugh! because thats just the cruel hearted person that i am :) even though i won't be as entertained, i do hope it comes out well; i'm imagining the hair to be everything i've always wanted mine to be: long flowing locks, with an exciting, nearly explosive property. god, i miss art!!! no art class sucks butt (which when you think about it is very awkward, but anyway...), but next semester kids - drawing 1 - i will be producing masterpieces like no other!!!!

Kori,
also you have the most amazing hair, seriously one of the first times I saw you was on an art field trip last year and I thought "That girl has such lovely hair!" and I wanted it's wavy goodness.

Wow Roz. I'm very envious of your sculpting skills, and also the locks on that hair. (Just kidding. I'm perfectly content with my hair. :-D) What kind of clay is this? Any ideas on how you're going to glaze it?
The drawings are also quite lovely, especially the second one of the female. It has a very classical quality to it.

i agree with shem, the second drawing is really nice....but i also disagree shem - deep down i think you really do want flowing locks, to match your natural grace and beauty

I forgot to comment on the drawings. I like the second drawing quite much, i agree with shem it feels very classical. The first drawing feels very odd to me proportionately speaking. For some reason i don't feel like the head is attached to neck.

I honestly considered photoshopping long flowing jesus locks on to each of your smiling faces (Maya, you were going to look especially beatific, but Kori couldn't quite pull it off...) but upon further reflection, I realized it would turn this lovely blog into a midden-heap. And so, I refrained.

Well, Shemit, it's...clay-clay. Glazes, I'm not sure if I want to go for an interesting crackly textured natural-tones look or vibrant and rich colors.

Please forgive me for being so blunt, but I forgot how much I like you guys!

:)
