Spidey!

Pardon the nerd in me, but the Spidey HAS to come out.

Frustration!!!

This is a post which i will delete at some point but i need somewhere to vent!! Oil paint, grrrrrrrrrr! I have been covered in smelly sticky paint all weekend! And for what a dead painting!
A dead hateful painting which has ruined my curtains, about 2 dresses and my jeans, not even mentioning my destroyed carpet! Why do my paintings never love me back!? Painting is seriously making me feel defeated. Do you really talented people ever feel this way!!!!!!! There is no way I'll ever make it to art school at the rate this is going. Really I feel utterly miserable. I don't see why I can't be one of those people that just understands technique, I really can't. I don't know how to break through to my inner artist zen! Any suggestions? Because I'm pretty much going insane sitting here covering my keyboard in paint. Sorry Roz I don't have your decency not to demolish the blog with my ranting :)

I'm sorry, as usual, that I'm the wobbly leg of our table and whatever precious objects and delicious foods are balanced on top are in danger of sliding off. So, this is what I have to offer in the way of balance...

This is a sculpture I'm working on for my IP, which is outside of class time. Actually, it was due today, but I'm nowhere near finished. I plan to make the hair cascade about everywhere, and I need to fire and glaze. I think it's going to explode in the kiln, anyway, because I know almost nothing about clay. It's been fantastic, though, sculpting--so cathartic and satisfying in a way that painting isn't for me. But at the moment, the smugly androgynous blandly patronizing face of my becurled creation is getting on my nerves a bit. And the hair, which has progressed significantly since I took this photo, is a gravitational disaster.

I guess I've done more with art in general. I could definitely be less happy with my progress this year, and I've done more than three things. The art program at UWC is fantastic...but lately I've been missing Leo's class, and figure drawing. And you guys, obviously, because you were a huge part of that. (Even you, Shem, despite your college status.)

Impressionism

An oil painting I did in Chama on site during a hike. Somewhat of an attempt at impressionism, I've been reading a lot on impressionists and Monet. I was very inspired. And this concludes my posting for today. Nice to have a Wednesday off school :) Most of the things I posted are all from sketch books or done quickly. Everything eles is at school and too big to scan, but I think next time I'll update my large finished pieces. Also I left my photo binder at school and I have a ton of photos I would like to post, . . . ahhhh for another day. Enjoy!
