Amazing Short Film

I just saw this on Youtube today. It's an amazing short film with puppets. Check it out.

This is a sort of self-portrait. Originally it was an image of me braiding this intricate braid, not realizing I was pulling my hair out of my scalp where I couldn't see it. It changed radically into what it is here, which I'm not entirely sure I like. The first concept seems more appropriate; this is too ambiguous. The drawing was once very clear but then I went hiking and when I came down I painted the entire thing with watercolors. After that, very little of the original drawing could be seen, so I traced it with charcoal, but I liked the original graphite much better.



As I was descending the 170-step long staircase from my room to the art building, I ran into my Bulgarian friend Tosh. "What's this," he said, "the Green Man? Did you not have any other colors of paint?" But despite this, I think the background is right; watercolors are versatile, and for a self-portrait the green works.

I decided to work on a face that was a bit older, something that I usually don't do. What annoys me about this one is the difference in style between the clothing and the face. The wrinkles are a bit off too.

Gross...

I really didn't want to upload this one...but I guess I'm going to. I spent a good 2 or 3 hours on it, and it didn't go anywhere. The eyes are crooked, the colors are dull, and the nose never really worked out right. The lips would look okay--if she had been rotting for 3 days.

I saw the most amazing movie yesterday. It's called 5 Centimeters per Second, written by Makoto Shinkai. I highly recommend you check it out. It's on YouTube--currently in 9 different sections. The artwork is beautiful, the story, heart-wrenching, and it'll seriously stick with you. Check it out.

The two people I love most . . .

This photo was a PAIN to develop it took me part of one class and an entire block period to make. I've never spent so much on one print or made soooo many test strips! I still think I should have burned in his right arm but I was dealing with so much I forgot. This is also the first photo I've ever burned (thanks to Bri for teaching me). Maybe someday I'll re-make it wih his arm less flawed but I'm pretty happy with it. The light was so intense when I took this! (I took it on my roof . . . haha)

Abstract Shots

The first photo was the first photo I ever used a filter on. Sadly the pipe is not completely in focus, I still didn't know how to use my aperture and selective focus correctly. Try and guess what the second photo is. I think it needs slighty more time but I don't have the time remake it. *sigh*

They're old and not processed very well because they were still in my first darkroom week, but they are probably my favorite shots I developed from those first days. The ocean hot I especially love. I'm currently working on a 32 panel joiner piece. This is small sample I did for a panel I'll be working on later. The actual dimensions of each panel on the actual painting will be about 9"x11" this painting is a 4"x4"
